El Tamarindo

The longest standing Salvadoran restaurant in the DC area, family owned on Florida Avenue since 1982 and known for eleven kinds of handmade pupusa, served with curtido and their own pupusa sauce. The regular card runs from elotes locos and a trio dip through sopa de res with short rib, yucca and sweet plantain, pollo en mole poblano, and a combinacion guanaca that gathers a pupusa, a tamal, plantains, rice and refried beans on one plate. The $25 lunch and $40 dinner Restaurant Week menus are not posted yet, so ask when you book. The kitchen runs to midnight Sunday through Thursday and to 2 AM on Friday and Saturday.
